EMPATH AS A VESSEL, 2016. Sculptural Installation (wire, wood, lamps, chair, bowl, altered book, box, red fruit: strawberries, two tomatoes, one apple)

A participatory installation made to explore the digestive process of an empath in the context of a radical adaptation of the folk tale of Echo and Narcissus.

People are invited to “feed” the sculpture from a bowl of red fruit. As she is fed, the nearly invisible sculpture gains volume. Sometimes a strawberry will pass through. Often items gets stuck. Visitors will poke their heads and bodies into the wooden frame surrounding the tableau. After stepping inside the three dimensional portrait, they join the installation. Between two lamps and a chair, someone might discover a wooden box hiding mostly underground. Inside that box is a book: The Book of Knowledge.

Exhibited at Labyrinth: a group show Art Camp Residency’s inaugural year, South China, ME
